Market introduction:

Indonesia is currently the world's seventh largest economy, the twelfth largest energy consumer, and the ninth largest emitter of carbon dioxide. It is expected that in the next few decades, Indonesia's economic growth will be very significant, with per capitaGDP It will rise from approximately US$13,000 in 2021 (accounting for 70% of the global average) to US$40,000 in 2060, entering the ranks of developed economies. At the same time, in order to meet the growing energy demand, the government has set a sustainable development goal and committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2060 or earlier. The power sector will play an important role in the energy transition, but fossil fuel combustion emissions still account for a large proportion in Indonesia, with more than 60% of electricity coming from newly built coal power plants.

Indonesia has huge renewable energy potential due to its abundant natural resources, especially in hydropower, geothermal and solar photovoltaics. Indonesian power development plan(RUPTL 2021-2030) China has set a target of 23% of renewable energy in the electricity mix by 2025. To achieve this goal, state-owned power companiesPLN It said that it will add hydropower, geothermal, biofuel power generation and biomass co-firing in coal power plants.

(1) Indonesian electricity:

With population growth and rapid urbanization, Indonesia's demand for electricity has increased significantly, driving sales of electrical equipment such as transformers and circuit breakers. At the same time, the Indonesian government is investing heavily in various infrastructure projects, such as roads, airports and railways, which has further promoted the demand for electrical equipment. Some international companies have chosen to build factories locally to provide necessary support for the power industry. National Electric Power Company (PLN) Annual report disclosure, 35 kV The average loss rate of the following distribution networks is 9.2%, far exceeding the ASEAN average of 4.7%. In 2022, a power outage in West Kalimantan due to old lines caused a local aluminum smelter to lose more than US$8 million in a single day. The government is advancing a three-year smart meter transformation plan. The New Energy Act, which will take effect in 2023, allows private capital to invest in the power transmission sector, and the Investment Coordinating Committee (BKPM) Data shows that in 2024 Q1 Foreign investment in the power sector increased by 37% year-on-year. Among them, the Sunan gas turbine project invested by China Datang Group with a US$1.2 billion investment has entered the market. EPC Bidding stage.

(2) Indonesian energy and new energy:

Indonesia's energy development is at a turning point. The country has built 101 gigawatts of power generation capacity, but renewable energy accounts for less than 15% of this total. However, Indonesia has huge untapped potential, with renewable energy potential ranging from 3,500 to 3,700 GW from hydropower, geothermal and solar resources. Indonesia hopes to close this gap by bringing together technology providers, policymakers and investors to turn this huge potential into real progress.

As Indonesia accelerates its energy transition, the government has set a goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2060 and has pledged that 76% of new power generation capacity will come from renewable energy over the next decade. This includes adding 75 million kilowatts of clean energy installed capacity by 2040, and plans to build 48,000 kilometers of transmission lines to achieve cross-island energy interconnection. In this country spanning more than 17,000 islands, advanced power transmission and distribution technology is the backbone of development. Modern and reliable power grid infrastructure plays a vital role in integrating diversified energy sources, reducing transmission losses, and ensuring stable power supply to industry and households. The government plans to launch the "Nusantara Grid" from 2025 to interconnect the islands, which will improve energy efficiency and system resilience. Cutting-edge power transmission and distribution solutions can also reduce outage times caused by natural disasters, optimize the use of clean energy, and comprehensively improve the quality of power supply services nationwide. As Indonesia accelerates its energy transformation, investment in power transmission and distribution technology is no longer optional but key to achieving a greener, more reliable and more efficient energy future. Iconic projects such as the Chilata floating photovoltaic power plant in West Java have demonstrated the effectiveness of transformation. This 192-megawatt power station has an annual power generation capacity of 245 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity and can reduce 210,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year, proving that Indonesia's clean energy transformation has entered the implementation stage. To achieve the long-term goal of reaching 87% renewable energy in 2050 and achieving net-zero emissions before then, Indonesia needs a cumulative investment of US$154 billion. Although clean energy investment has reached US$498 million in 2023 and development momentum is strong, there are still huge opportunities for cooperation.
