Market introduction:

Indonesia's mining industry is entering an era of change. With the world's largest reserves of critical minerals, the country is not only expanding extraction but also accelerating downstream initiatives to strengthen its position in global supply chains. In today's mining industry, extraction alone is no longer enough, success depends on maximizing recovery, improving efficiency and reducing waste. From reprocessing tailings and slag to deploying advanced smelting and refining technologies, mineral recycling is becoming key to unlocking hidden value while reducing environmental impact. The government has fast-tracked 18 mining-related development projects worth $38.6 billion to secure potential funding. The projects cover mining and coal processing, energy security and infrastructure related to the energy transition. Additionally, Indonesia has the largest nickel deposits in the world, making it a prime candidate for electric vehicles (EV) A key player in the battery supply chain. The coal mining industry remains one of the largest in the world, with annual exports exceeding 450 million tons. Indonesia aims to drive 8% economic growth in its mining sector, with a focus on downstream processing to add value before exports. According to the Minister of Energy and Mineral ResourcesBahlil Lahadalia According to the report, Indonesia needs US$618 billion for mining and downstream industries by 2040. 91% of the investment belongs to the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources. Nickel reserves account for 40-45% of the global total, attracting more investors in electric vehicle batteries.
